AD 432 - 3D MODELING AND VISUALIZATION - assignments

assignment 2 - polygon modeling

Objective

Understanding of Polygon Modeling techniques in Cinema 4D.

Understanding and proficiency with Polygon Commands in Cinema 4D.

Understanding and proficiency with Subdivision Surface Modeling in Cinema 4D.

Using PBR material assets with the RS Standard Shader

Assignment Modeling:

  • Using C4D only, create a 3D polygon model from the supplied 2D image. (2D images are located in D2L under Assignment Resources)
  • Use a combination of "box modeling" and "polygon modeling" methods for manipulating components (points, edges, polygons) to recreate the supplied 2D image into a 3D model. (model will include 2 separate modeled objects)
  • Use a Subdivision Surface for smoothing.
  • Create 3D models WITH EFFICIENCY using only QUADS with good topology (pay attention to edge flow)
  • Use polygon modeling tools to make geometry with no holes, no non-manifold geometry, and correct normal directions.
  • Create a simple backdrop or geometry for a room/space

Assignment Texturing:

  • Create RS Standard Materials using PBR texture maps from Ambient CG
  • Create a separate RS Material for
    • The bottle body
    • The supplied label
    • The bottle lid
    • The background backdrop
  • Materials should be made from scratch with texture files from Ambient CG

Assignment Lighting

  • Add a Dome light with a mapped HDRI for subtle tones
  • Add Area lights to create a specific lighting effect
  • Complete 3 Renders from various camera vantage points (1929 x 1080, Tiff)

Parameters

  • Polygon Modeling and Box Modeling only (quads).
  • No use of Booleans, Deformers, Cloners, Volume Builders, Remesh, MoGraph, or Splines
  • No Sculpting.
  • Any Generators applied must be discussed in class (Symmetry and Thicken)
  • No Simulations

Format:

Complete all modeling in Cinema 4D and save .C4D file

Leave all generators separate in object hierarchy.

Render 3 single views and save as a .TIF file (1080p)

What to Turn in:

  • You must turn in your C4D file. (If the C4D file is missing on the first submission, no points will be awarded for the assignment.)
  • Turn in all texture maps used in the project. A simple method to collect all asset
    • File > Save Project With Assets
  • Submit render files: TIF format, 1920 x 1080
  • Place all files in a single folder and name the folder : FirstName_LastName_Polygon
  • Compress the folder into a single file (ZIP, etc.) and upload to D2L before class on the due date.
